The Project

The Shropshire Star is the fifth biggest-selling regional evening newspaper in Britain. Based in Telford, the papers daily circulation is around 25,000. It provides news and sport coverage for Shropshire and Mid Wales, printing 3 editions per day, 5 days a week, plus one Saturday edition.

“This was a great project to be involved in, we’ve been fortunate enough to have long standing business relationships with both Shropshire Star and the engineers, which always helps make these jobs easier, and of course we always get great support from your sales team and technical.”
Paul Turner, Manager at ETC Electrical

The Brief

The Shropshire Star wanted to improve the light output whilst at the same time show a saving in running costs. After walking around the office area, Paul Turner of ETC Electrical Supplies suggested to consider Kosnic, and in particular the 30W Kali-Standard Kosnic LED panel along with the optional Daylight Harvesting Control unit.

The Solution

The project required light fittings to be spec’d for the large office area for the Star’s journalists and staff to work in. For this, the Kali-Standard 30watt LED panel and optional Daylight Harvesting control were chosen. The Kali-Standard panel is highly efficient (130lm/W) and an easy-fit replacement for a standard ceiling tile fitting. The panel has an operating life of 40,000 hours and reduces energy costs by up to 50%.

The Result

Most of the panels were fitted with the Daylight Harvesting control, which automatically adapts the lighting to the ambient conditions by dimming the panel output to maintain the required illumination level, saving even more energy. The use of the optional gear was a no-brainer to all involved due to the office’s large windows.
