Jubilee Community Centre

The Challenge

The Jubilee Community Centre at ATC Pirbright is a central part of community life for almost 3,000 people. As the social hub for local Army members and their families, the Centre hosts a huge variety of events, from Health and Well-being fairs and weekly “Chill and Chat” sessions to children’s sports clubs and mother and toddler groups. It even serves as the drop-off and collection point for before- and after-school care for children.

In fact, there’s not often a day that goes past without the centre being used for something of benefit to the local community.

For those unfamiliar with military life, we cannot emphasise enough how important centres like the Jubilee Community Centre are to members of the armed forces and their families. But, after many years of constant use, it was in dire need of an upgrade and general refurbishment.

The Solution

As part of their commitment to Social Value – and in particular, the Armed Forces – BJF Group and their client VINCI recently completed a volunteering project to refurbish the Jubilee Community Centre. They were supported by a host of suppliers and subcontractors, and Kosnic was very proud to be included in this important project.

Working with our wholesaler, Moss Electrical, we provided all the requested internal lighting – including emergency lighting – free of charge.

Our team was part of a group of 40 tradespeople and volunteers, who contributed around 650 hours of their time to this worthwhile project. The key mandate was to improve the overall condition of the building, which included its energy performance. This is where modern, energy-efficient LED lights can play a huge role.

The new lights were complemented by new ceiling tiles, a new paint job and general maintenance and repair. Externally, all paths were jet-washed, as was the sports pitch, and a new canopy was constructed over the BBQ area.

Results

As you can see from the photographs, the internal lighting has completely transformed the look of the social and entertainment areas, making them far more enjoyable to use.

This was a hugely rewarding project to be involved with, and we are very grateful to have had the opportunity to contribute our products and expertise to such a worthwhile refurbishment.
