Advanced Lighting Upgrades for Enhanced Care and Sustainability
Severn Hospice, renowned for providing specialist care in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and Mid Wales, embarked on a mission to upgrade their lighting systems at two key locations: Shrewsbury and Apley. This initiative aimed to improve the care environment while significantly reducing the energy footprint, aligning with the UK’s Net Zero emissions goals
Strategic Partnership Drives Innovation
The project was a fruitful collaboration between Kosnic Lighting and RMW Electrical Services Ltd, with Kosnic’s project leader Joshua Whitehead-Davies and RMW’s Stan Dunderdale at the helm. Their partnership leveraged RMW’s deep understanding of the lighting requirements and Kosnic’s cutting-edge lighting technologies. Through meticulous site surveys and detailed planning, the team customised the lighting solutions to meet the specific needs of each hospice location, ensuring that every solution was perfectly suited to enhance both energy efficiency and patient care
Objective: Implement energy-efficient lighting with advanced control features. For Apley the objective was similar to Bicton, but tailored with different product selections to best fit the specific environments.
Kennet II: These interior surface mount slim LED battens have an adjustable color temperature, feature plug-in motion sensors that enable lighting to dim down to 25% in unoccupied areas, optimising energy use. Specifically designed to replace less efficient fixtures, these battens provide substantial energy savings and improved light quality. The soft start dimming feature of the sensor offers a smooth transition to full brightness.
LED Bulkhead with K2D and DD emergency module:Â The IP65/IK10 decorative bulkhead was installed with the plug-and-play DD emergency module and the modular K2D lamp. The K2D lamp has wattage and CCT switching capabilities, giving maximum flexibility.
Alden II Pro LED Panels: These low glare panels ensure even light distribution and ultra-high energy efficiency, suitable for healthcare settings. They were also installed with the Universal Emergency Module
The Congo II, non-corrosive 5ft twin, CCT switchable 62W were used as they are suitable for a wide range of applications and offer outstanding lumen efficiency with switchable colour temperature
Feedback from Severn Hospice staff was overwhelmingly positive, with noted improvements in lighting quality significantly enhancing the care environment. The projects led by the Kosnic-RMW team not only saved energy but also helped the hospice reduce its carbon footprint, contributing to environmental sustainability goals.
This partnership between Kosnic and RMW Electrical underlines the power of collaboration in achieving exceptional results. The success of the lighting upgrades at Severn Hospice demonstrates how tailored solutions can meet specific needs while driving sustainability. It’s a testament to the commitment of both Kosnic and RMW to deliver superior solutions that enhance patient care and support broader environmental objectives. This project sets a benchmark for future collaborations in the healthcare sector and beyond.
