Innovative & Stylish Designs for Retail Environments
The Project
The Peterborough United FC Store, also known as The Posh to it frequent visitors, is home to all the possible merchandise that its football supporters could need. Located in the football club’s home ground, it is the main pathway for all fans, so Kosnic Lighting were tasked with designing a lighting scheme to showcase the products available in the store and creating a welcoming environment. The lighting scheme would also have to match the dynamic and energetic atmosphere of the store.
The Solution
For this project, a more focussed lighting approach was chosen to go alongside the dark interior of the store, instead of using the evenly lit space of a typical retail store. This helped to embrace the dynamic atmosphere that the store was looking for, additionally it helped to focus customer’s attention on the merchandise within the store. To achieve this, a variety of lighting was chosen, ranging from retail spotlights to interior linear luminaires.
In the main area, 35W Alcor spotlights were uses to highlight many of the freestanding and wall mounted displays and artwork around the store and with its CCT switching capability, it was quick and easy to choose the perfect ambience. The Tatio circular wall washer was also used to highlight and illuminate the club’s logo in the centre of the store. This luminaire has an add-on optional emergency kit that is simply attached to the side of the fitting via a self-adhesive LED pad – no additional drilling is required.
The spotlights were then paired with our Nile II interior batten, a sleek and stylish option for modern applications. It was positioned over the till and queue area and when coupled with its blank sections it created a snaking format which led you through the front of the store.
Emergency lighting was also necessary for this project, so a mixture of Nitro downlights and Doxa II emergency signs were used throughout the premises, providing a layer of security while enhancing the lighting design.
The project also required light fittings to be specified for the back of house areas. For this, some of the most highly energy efficient fittings were used, including the 18W Alden II Pro panels and Trent III non-corrosive battens that both reach up to 167lm/W and 175lm/W respectively.

With the installation of Kosnic’s LED lighting, The Posh has created an energetic and inviting atmosphere that will entice supporters into the store to browse the available merchandise, which has now been perfectly highlighted by its new lighting.
